Meet Sawyer – the revolutionary new high performance collaborative robot designed to execute machine tending, circuit board testing and other precise tasks that are impractical to automate with conventional robots.  Sawyer is a significant addition to the Rethink Robotics family of smart collaborative robotics, giving manufacturers the high performance automation they need for a wider range of tasks, while maintaining the critical flexibility, safety and interactive user experience that have become synonymous with our brand.

Weighing only 19 kg (42 lbs), Sawyer features 7 degrees of freedom with a 1260 mm meter reach that can maneuver into the tight spaces and varied alignments of work cells designed for humans.  Its compliant motion control allows it to “feel” its way into fixtures or machines, even when the position varies slightly.  This enables our adaptive repeatability that is unique in the robotics industry and allows Sawyer to work precisely (+/- .1 mm) in semi-structured environments, while operating safely next to human co-workers.

It’s agile enough to change applications quickly, and performs tasks like humans do. But it also offers a number of key distinctions that make it ideal for high precision tasks that can be impractical for traditional automation.

Sawyer is designed for a variety of higher speed, higher precision tasks, such as machine tending and circuit board testing, that still require flexibility, safety and a compliant touch.

Embedded Cognex Vision

Sawyer offers an embedded vision system, with a head camera for wide view applications and a Cognex camera in its wrist that enables the Robot Positioning System and eventually many other complex vision tasks.

Smaller Footprint, Longer Reach

Smaller and lighter weight than Baxter, with 7 DOF and a 1260 mm maximum reach, Sawyer can maneuver into the tight spaces and varied alignments of work cells designed for humans.

International Availability

Sawyer was built from the ground up to meet the needs of the global manufacturing marketplace. It’s currently available throughout North America, Europe and Asia-Pacific.

The Power of the Platform

Like Baxter, Sawyer is powered by the industry’s best and most intuitive software platform, Intera.  It features the same iconic “face” screen (with a refreshed and even more expressive design) that helps it communicate with co-workers, along with the train-by-demonstration user interface that revolutionized how robots can be deployed on factory floors.  Sawyer runs on the same version of Intera as Baxter, and will continue to evolve and improve with regular upgrades.
