elephants don’t play chess: rodney brooks on ai

in rethinking robotics by Sue Sokoloski

In 1990 Rodney Brooks authored a paper entitled Elephants Don’t Play Chess – a ground breaking concept that ushered in an alternative view of Artificial Intelligence.  Twenty five years later, he is addressing the misconceptions that now surround AI, allaying the media-fueled fears of robots with evil intentions.

Hear him in his own words talk about AI, and how Baxter and Sawyer have common sense – the ability to complete tasks, not just motions.

If you haven’t already, be sure to watch part one and part two of this series with Rodney Brooks.

Sue Sokoloski

Sue has spent the last two decades marketing for emerging technologies, building new categories, and applying science to the art of marketing. It took one look at Baxter to sign on to Rethink Robotics – a human-safe robot out to change the world. When not promoting “all things Sawyer and Baxter”, she is focused on “all things food”: where to eat it, how to prepare it, how to write another cookbook about it.
